“The charming, wordless storytelling managed to convey excitement, enthusiasm and emotion” – Review Culture
Autin Dance Theatre return to Walsall Arena and Arts Centre with their fabulous family show, Out of the Deep Blue, which explores the climate emergency, told beautifully through dance, movement and masterful puppeteering.
The whirr of the wind cutting across a rocky beach, the whoosh of the waves lapping the shore…
The illusion of calm is broken when EKO, a sentient Sea Giant, pads onto dry land. There he encounters a young girl called Violet. And that’s where the story begins.
Out of the Deep Blue is a tale told in two parts – an interactive promenade and a physical theatre duet – transporting its audiences into another world, to tell a story about our own world.
Through dance, movement and masterful puppeteering, the performance dives into the themes of the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis in a spectacle featuring a 4-metre tall puppet operated by 5 world-class puppeteers and contemporary dancers.
The show has been designed with children and family audiences in mind, and this magical story about the power of empathy and collaboration between these two beings – an ancient creature, a dispirited teen – speaks to the world at large.

You can also join us for Out of the Deep Blue ‘Move & Make Workshops’, which are designed for children aged 4 years+.
Workshops are being held at Walsall Arena on:
Friday 10 June – 10.00am & 11.00am and 11.00am & 12.00pm
Taking inspiration from Out of the Deep Blue’s Eko, you’ll get creative with recycled materials and consider the impact of climate change whilst making your own puppets before you get moving! The sessions are run by 1 puppetry specialist and 1 dance specialist and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Tickets cost just £4.00 – which also includes the cost of seeing Out of the Deep Blue at Walsall Arena on Wednesday 15 June at either 9.00am, 11.30am or 2.00pm.
