Joseph Toonga brings to Walsall Arena & Arts Centre his muscular hip hop dance theatre with, Born To Exist: The Women I Know which champions the powerful force of the women who have shaped his life.
Combining research and experience, Joseph and the cast manifest what it means to be a human and show it in all it’s ugliness, beauty, contradictions and complexity. Born To Exist: The Women I Know invites change and a sense of overcoming the stigmas society holds towards ethnic minorities.
This work brings together a powerhouse of creatives, lighting design by Simisola Majekodunmi, an original score from Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante and dramaturg Peggy Olislaegers and provides a platform for ultimate activism.
Drawn from personal experience and stories from the all-female cast expect an honest and uplifting performance with inspirational movement asserting the claim, to unapologetically exist.
